Bonhoeffer–No Voice for the Victims

1 Peter 4:17: JUDGMENT BEGINS AT THE HOUSE OF THE LORD—

“In Ethics, Bonhoeffer writes of the Jews as the ‘most defenseless brothers and sisters of Jesus Christ.’ Ethics, Guilt Justification Renewal, DWB, vol. 6, page 139. ‘The church confesses that it has witnessed the arbitrary use of brutal force, the suffering in body and soul of countless innocent people, that it has witnessed oppression, hatred and murder without raising its voice for the victims and without finding ways of rushing to help them.’ In Bonhoeffer, DBW, vol. 6, pp. 138. ‘She [church] is guilty of the deaths of the weakest and most defenseless brothers of Christ,’ in Bonhoeffer, Ethics, trans. Neville Horton Smith (New York: MacMillan, 1955), p. 50.” Endnote 16, p. 449, Strange Glory—A Life of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Charles Marsh.

For the information of the readers of this message, quite a number of Messianic Jews were in Germany. Bonhoeffer, above, is speaking of those who attended Gentile churches and who believed in the Messiah–Jesus. The churches were silent.
