Study to show yourself approved unto God–a bad translation!

How long simple ones, who hate knowledge, will you love simplicity while the scorners delight in their scorning–Proverbs

Making the lowest of the people priests and preachers of high places

Richard Duke:

A friend showed me yet another completely incorrect English translation of the Bible-the word “study” is not only incorrect but badly misleading.  Study appears to have a meaning of a passive word; and understanding that word as passive studying is a great misleading distortion. Passivity is not a word for the kingdom of God, where Jesus is King, not just Savior:

2 Timothy 2:15:

15 Study [spoudazo] to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Spoudazo means:
1) to hasten, make haste 2) to exert one’s self, endeavour, give diligence

10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. 11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; 13 Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is. 14 If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.  1 Corinthians 3:10-14.
