A study of Matthew 24:1-3; 34-35: And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto Him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of Thy coming, and of the end of the world?

Meaning of last days and last time in Hebrews 1 and 1 John 2

PLEASE NOTE THAT JESUS IS SPEAKING WITH THE DISCIPLES PRIVATELY.

Matthew 24:

1 And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and His disciples came to Him for to show Him the buildings of the temple.

And Jesus said unto them, See ye [speaking to the disciples, not to us today] not all these things? verily I say unto you [not us today], There shall not be left here [that particular temple, not some temple today] one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down [speaking to the disciples].

And as He sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto Him privately, saying, Tell us [the disciples, not us today], when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? [the word “world” is NOT correct–see below]

Jesus was asked three questions: (i) when shall these things [what He said in verse 2] be; (ii) what shall be the sign of Your coming; and (iii) [when] is the end of the AGE (it is NOT world*)?  AS YOU CONTINUE TO READ MAKE SURE YOU KEEP THSES THREE QUESTIONS IN YOUR MIND THIS IS A DIALOGUE BETWEEN JESUS AND THE DISCIPLES HE WAS NOT TALKING TO PEOPLE TODAY.

αἰών aion

1) for ever, an unbroken age, perpetuity of time, eternity
 2) the worlds, universe
 3) period of time, age

He responds to these questions:

But note that after He answers the questions, He says this in Matthew 24:

34 Verily [listen up!] I say unto you [the disciples and (those standing by–see also Mark 13 and Luke 21–NOT US LIVING TODAY), This generation [not a future generation] shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilledWHAT WAS FULFILLED?  THE LAW–after the destuction of the temple and Jerusalem in 70 AD.  READ MATTHEW 5:17-18–scroll down and you will see these verses.

The law was fulfilled around 70 AD [destruction of Jerusalem and the temple]–Matthew 5; Matthew 24; Mark 13; Luke 21; and other verses

35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

Heaven and earth was the Jewish age of the law as the Bible states over and over and over and over!   [And no I do not believe in “replacement theology.” Richard Duke].  See the following previous posts but continue reading below with: NOTE THE QUESTIONS ASKED IN MARK 13 AND LUKE 21–SEE Below:

How Heaven and Earth Passed Away

Heaven and earth passed away; and if they did not then the old law still applies

For those were the days of vengeance —70 AD DESTRUCTION OF JERUSALEM AND THE TEMPLE — so that all things which are written were then FULFILLED

NOTE THE QUESTIONS ASKED IN MARK 13 AND LUKE 21:

Mark 13:

Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign when all these things shall be fulfilled?  THESE THINGS ARE NOT IN OUR FUTURE BECAUSE THE TEMPLE IS NOT FALLING DOWN DURING THE FUTURE OF PEOPLE LIVING TODAYLet me repeat that: THESE THINGS ARE NOT IN OUR FUTURE BECAUSE THE TEMPLE IS NOT FALLING DOWN DURING THE FUTURE OF PEOPLE LIVING TODAY.

Luke 21:

Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign when all these things shall be fulfilled?

HIS RESPONSES:

And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.

For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end** is not yet.

**τέλος telos
1) end
1a) termination, the limit at which a thing ceases to be
(always of the end of some act or state, but not of the end of a period of time)
    1b) the end
1b1) the last in any succession or series
        1b2) eternal
1c) that by which a thing is finished, its close, issue
1d) the end to which all things relate, the aim, purpose
 2) toll, custom (i.e. indirect tax on goods)

IN THE ABOVE DEFINITION I DID NOT ADD THE PARENTHESIS UNDER 1a.  Richard Duke

For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.

All these are the beginning of sorrows.

Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake.

10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.

11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

13 But he that shall endure unto the end***, the same shall be saved.

***τέλος telos--SAME AS VERSE 6 ABOVE

14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end**** come. [the gospel of the Kingdom was preached to all the world–SEE Colossians 1:23; 26-27]

****τέλος telos - SAME AS VERSES 6 AND 13 ABOVE

15 When you [notice this is to whom He is speaking–the disciples] therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)

16 Then let them which be in Judaea [are we in Judea?] flee into the mountains:

17 Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house:

18 Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.

19 And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days! [No change in meaning from the Greek words–THOSE DAYS WERE THEN, NOT NOW]

20 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:

21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world [kosmos–world] to this time, no, nor ever shall be.

22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.

23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.

24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

25 Behold, I have told you before.

26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.

27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. HE ANSWERS WHEN SHALL BE THE SIGN OF HIS COMINGNOTICE THIS IS BEFORE HE SAYS TO HIS DISCIPLES ALL THESE THINGS SHALL OCCUR DURING YOUR [THE DISCIPLES] GENERATION–VERSE 34

28 For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.

29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes [tribes of Israel, not America and countries today] of the earth mourn, and they [NOT US TODAY] shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

31 And He shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: [PARABLE OF THE FIG TREE AND SUMMER IS NIGH MEAN THAT THE JEWISH AGE OF THE LAW IS ABOUT TO COME TO AN END TO BE REPLACED WITH GRACE FROM JESUS FROM ARISING AND ASCENDING–THE END THAT JESUS IS TALING ABOUT IS THE END OF THE LAW–MATTHEW 5:17-18; AND HEAVEN AND EARTH MEANS HERE IN MATTHEW 5 AND VERSE 35 OF MATTHEW 24 THE END OF THE LAW–READ IT!]

33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.

NOW READ THIS–CAREFULLY:

34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. [WHAT WAS FULFILLED?  THE LAW!!! – MATTHEW 5:17-18. READ IT! (It is cited and quoted below).

35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

SEE:

Matthew 5:17-18:

17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.

18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Mark 9:1:

1 And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power.

Matthew 16:27-28:

27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then He shall reward every man according to his works.

28 Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.

Luke 21:22:

22 For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.

Leviticus 26:19:

19 And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass:   (Notice the word: your, which is Israel)

Heaven and earth passed away; and if they did not then the old law still applies

Matthew 24-The Most Dramatic Prophecy of Jesus–Lynn Hiles

Rethinking the Last Days with Lynn Hiles (Video) – Friday PM (no. 1)

Look at the events stated in Matthew 24, Mark 13 and Luke 21 that occur before the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple–THIS HAPPENED IN 70 AD; AND NOT IN THE FUTURE

Jesus: Some of you who are standing here shall not taste death until you have seen the SON OF MAN returning and bringing the Kingdom of God with power

For those were the days of vengeance —70 AD DESTRUCTION OF JERUSALEM AND THE TEMPLE — so that all things which are written were then FULFILLED
