Political Contests Are Between Competing Socialisms

By Richard M. Ebeling

“When everything Democrats and Republicans say and propose are placed next to each other there is one common denominator: All are variations on the socialist theme of government control and planning in place of personal choice and private enterprise decision-making.

Therefore, the fear that socialism may come to America is misplaced – it’s already here in terms of what and how much government controls and manages. The evolution in the changing meaning of socialism over the last one hundred years highlights this very clearly. The real task, now, for friends of freedom is to explain and persuade their fellow citizens on the dangers in following this path, both in terms of how far we’ve already moved in this direction and the intensified dangers of a far more explicit “democratic” socialism that seems to the watchword of political discourse in America, today.”
