Worthless Watchmen preached by Pastor Dr. Chuck Baldwin

From the sermon–which is about watchmen, not other subjects:

“It’s not the job of the preacher to be well liked. It’s not the job of the preacher to make money and be wealthy. It’s not the job of the preacher to be notable in society. It’s not the job of the preacher to belong to all the social clubs so people can say what a wonderful fellow he is.

The preacher has one job. To sound the clarion call of truth, and to warn the people about what is right and what is wrong, and the danger they are in when it comes.

America’s problem is not a political problem. America’ problem is not a social problem. America’s problem is not an education problem. America’s problem is not a liberal problem or a left problem.

America’s problem is a pulpit problem. The men of God in the pulpits today are not the watchmen that God has instructed them to be.

In other words, whenever you see the danger, when you see the wickedness, and you choose to be silent and you excuse your silence saying “I didn’t know about that,” does not the Lord know your heart? Does He not know your cowardice? Will He not avenge the innocent and judge those of you who had the responsibility to sound the trumpet and failed to do so?

11 If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain;

12 If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works.

Last paragraph of this sermon—

“Brethren, our preaching will bear its legitimate fruits. If immorality prevails in the land, the fault is ours in a great degree. If there is a decay of conscience, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the public press lacks moral discrimination, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the church is degenerate and worldly, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the world loses its interest in religion, the pulpit is responsible for it. If Satan rules in our halls of legislation, the pulpit is responsible for it. If our politics become so corrupt that the very foundations of our government are ready to fall away, the pulpit is responsible for itLet us not ignore this fact, my dear brethren; but let us lay it to heart, and be thoroughly awake to our responsibility in respect to the morals of this nation.”

“…since in such circumstances the popular favorite [of the masses] is generally some Barabbas.

The picture which Isaiah presents of the Judean masses is most unfavorable. In his view, the mass man — be he high or be he lowly, rich or poor, prince or pauper — gets off very badly. He appears as not only weak minded and weak willed, but as by consequence knavish, arrogant, grasping, dissipated, unprincipled, unscrupulous.”
