Bible: What are the two primary purposes of prophecy for us?

The answers:

  1. SPIRITUAL REASON:

That the light may shine in hearts.

2. THE REASON FOR THE MIND:

“…that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

NOTE THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH WHEN JESUS WILL RETURN PHYSICALLY. AND ALSO NOTE THAT REVELATION WAS WRITTEN FOR THE PURPOSE OF REVEALING JESUS CHRIST.

2 Peter 1:19-20:

19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto you [those Peter was speaking to in that time] do well that you take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: [“we” above is Peter and the disciples][notice the colon at the end of this verse]

THE MORE SURE WORD OF PROPHECY TO PETER AND THE OTHER DISCIPLES MEANT TAKING HEED TO HAVE LIGHT IN HEARTS

2 Peter 1:20-21:

20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
